Have you ever wanted to cast a spell? Maybe you have without knowing it. Ever made a wish on a falling star? Or thrown a pinch of salt over your shoulder to avert bad luck? These are both customs that have actually evolved from ancient Pagan beliefs and practices. However, simply the act of making a wish or throwing the salt does not constitute a spell. To make these gestures into magick, one would need to perform them with visualization and intent. For instance to add magick to the wish on a falling star, you would need to visualize the wish coming true, and say something like:

Harming none and respecting the free will of all living things, it is my will and intent to
(state your wish)
To seal the spell, you would say:
So Mote it Be.

The first, and probably most important thing to remember when casting a spell is the Wiccan Rede, which states, "Eight words the Wiccan Rede fulfill; An'it harm none, do what ye will." What this means simply is do not use magick that can hurt yourself, or ANYONE else. Never attempt to manipulate the free will of any living thing. If you should violate the Rede, intentionally or otherwise, you will have to pay a price: The negativity created by your own actions will come back to you threefold or more. So for example, say you worked a spell to make someone very sick. You may become sick, or worse, even die from it. Or if you work a spell that will cause death, you may die also, and so might two of your friends. This applies to all spells so matter how simple they seem. However, don't let this scare you. If you perform good, then only good will come back to you, threefold.
